The National conference is being held down here in London this year and will be based at the Royal Geographical Society buildings adjacent to Hyde Park. The plan is as follows with some aspects still to be confirmed:

Friday evening


A talk by a well known personality at the Royal Geographical Society. This will be open to both wild medics and the public. Conference attendees will gain free entry.

Saturday

Opening speech by Professor David Warrell (Emeritus professor of Tropical Medicine – Oxford university).
This will be followed by a number of different activities, each of which will involve teaching workshops, participating in scenarios and watching demonstrations. They will fall into the following themes:

Trauma medicine - HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service)
Water/Diving medicine - RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution)
Wilderness first aid/Battlefield medicine + surgery – Army/Navy/RAF
Mountain Medicine – Mountain Rescue Services
Chemical Warfare medicine – The armed forces/the emergency services

Saturday Social (optional)

A black tie buffet dinner including wine at a central London hotel. We are hoping to have an after dinner speech by the explorer Benedict Allen followed by a disco/dance.

Major General Alan Hawley OBE (Director, Army Medical Services)

Dr Sundeep Dhillon (Expedition medic and climber)

Afternoon workshops in
Tropical medicine, altitude medicine, diving medicine, conflict medicine, cold weather survival, wild photography and more.
